Not available in sandbox: The QuickBooks Workforce API is not available in the sandbox environment. You must use production keys to test this API.

The Payroll Compensation API is available to Silver, Gold, and Platinum partners only. To upgrade your tier, visit the Intuit Developer Portal. If you’re already on a paid tier and don’t have access, open a support ticket.


Using the Workforce API you can build app integrations for a variety of use cases, such as syncing employee details, importing timesheets, and integrating with a payroll benefits or pension plan provider.

How to get access

The Workforce API is a premium API available to Silver, Gold, and Platinum partners.


To get access:


  1. Upgrade to the Silver tier or higher on the Intuit Developer Portal.
  2. Your app should now have access to the Premium API scopes. Go to your app’s Permissions page in the Developer Portal. Enable the payroll.compensation.read scope under Restricted scopes.
  3. Add the enabled scope to your OAuth authorization requests.

If you’re on the Builder tier, you must upgrade to Silver or higher before access can be granted.
