Not available in sandbox: The Payroll Compensation API is not available in the sandbox environment. You must use production keys to test this API.

The Payroll and Time API is available to Silver, Gold, and Platinum partners only and is not available to Builder tier partners. To upgrade your tier, visit the Intuit Developer Portal. If you’re already on a paid tier and don’t have access, open a support ticket.


Using the QuickBooks Payroll and Time API you can build app integrations for a variety of use cases, such as syncing employee details, importing timesheets, and integrating with a payroll benefits or pension plan provider.

How to get access

The Payroll Compensation API is a Premium API available to Silver, Gold, and Platinum partners.


To get access:


  1. Upgrade to the Silver tier or higher on the Intuit Developer Portal.
  2. Once your tier is active, open a support ticket to complete manual onboarding for this API.
  3. Once onboarded, go to your app’s Permissions page in the Developer Portal. Enable the payroll.compensation.read scope under Restricted scopes.
  4. Add the enabled scope to your OAuth authorization requests.

If you’re on the Builder tier, you must upgrade to Silver or higher before access can be granted.
