  • the Hackathon on Sat. & Sun., Oct. 22-23,
  • the $100k Small Business App Showdown on the evening of Mon., Oct. 24,
  • the main conference and breakouts on Tues. and Wed., Oct. 25-26.

Wondering what’s in it for a developer?

Small Business Tech Hackathon

This year’s hackathon will focus on leveraging the latest in tech to drive innovation for small business and non-profits. Teams of 1-4 people will work together for 24 hours of hacking to build brand new innovative solutions that save non-profits or small businesses time and money.  You can use the QuickBooks API, or something totally different.  We’ll have plenty of gadgets for you to experiment with, as well as some additional API partners to challenge and encourage you.  Don’t work on your existing app or code — build something brand new and wow the judges with your creativity and ingenuity.  There will be more details on the hackathon coming next month!

Check out some highlights from last year’s #QBHack:

Main Conference and Breakouts

This year, the main conference is expanded to 2 days. We’ll have more content than ever, including practical, hands-on tutorial sessions and plenty of open office hours throughout both days for you to meet one-on-one with our tech and marketing teams, and even more opportunities for you to network with your peers and customers.  This on top of main stage speakers like Malcolm Gladwell, Shaquille O’Neal, Brad Smith, and more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Technical tutorial sessions especially for developers include topics like

  • Using Webhooks for QuickBooks API to Handle Data Changes in Your App
  • OAuth for QuickBooks Online REST Services
  • Building a Global App: Understanding the Global Tax Model and Multi Currency
  • Best Practices for Your App Integration
  • App Design for the Mobile Experience
  • Implementing Analytic and Optimization Tools on Your Website or App

We’ll also have practical sessions on how to grow your business from 1-20 or 20-100 employees, how to be a great product manager that builds products customers love, how to market your app and gain customers in your niche.  This combined with the main stage speakers, the exhibition space, the scores of additional practical sessions around building and running a business or practice, and networking opportunities (plus a great party or two), make it an event you don’t want to miss!

$100k Small Business App Showdown

Have you been following SmallBusinessAppShowdown.com?  If you published your app on the QuickBooks App Store at Apps.com between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15, 2016, make sure you’ve entered your app in this contest.  Finalists will be chosen the first week of Sept. and invited to come to QuickBooks Connect to exhibit their app and pitch their solution to a panel of judges for a chance to win the $100,000 grand prize. You don’t want to miss the Showdown pitch event on Monday evening, Oct. 24, during the conference welcome reception!

Thousands of accountants and small business owners will come to QuickBooks Connect. Want to get your app in front of this highly qualified and captive audience? Sponsorships are almost sold out, but there are still a few slots left.
