Major QuickBooks Online Milestone Means Big Business for Developers

Today we announced a major milestone for QuickBooks Online: we have over two million paid subscribers worldwide. For our developer community, this continues to provide an exciting potential business opportunity for solving the everyday challenges small businesses face and for simplifying complex, time-consuming tasks with seamless QuickBooks Online data integrations.

Right now, we have over 1500 active apps created for the QuickBooks Online platform. Of those, 472 apps are on the dedicated QuickBooks Online App Store. The apps collectively are now making over 850 million API calls per month. The growth is phenomenal.

And we’ve only just started solving the myriad of complex problems small businesses around the world have to face every single day. To be sure, we’ve worked with amazing developers to provide foundational tools such as time-tracking, expenses, inventory, and much more. We’ve partnered with companies like Google, PayPal, and Square to eliminate manual data entry, and made it easier for customers to manage their businesses.

In addition, there are many innovative developers taking advantage of the QuickBooks Online platform to provide customers with harmonious experiences where everything works together, so they can focus on their businesses rather than balancing the books. Apps like AutoEntry, an app that automates entry of bills, receipts, bank statements, and sales invoices; or HouseCall Pro, which helps carpet cleaners manage their business; Quotient, an online estimating and proposal app; and Jobber, providing mobile scheduling, invoicing, CRM and time tracking for service companies; and many, many more.

Fueling Developer Success
As we move forward in our journey, we at Intuit Developer are hyper-focused on offering developers more opportunities to grow and become successful by integrating with our platform.

On the product side, we continue to respond to requested items from the developer community —such as Webhooks, documentation enhancements, as well as developer support, code samples, and SDK improvements including:

We have more significant developer experience improvements we’ll be excited to share with you over the next few weeks and months.

Although we are making progress in helping our developers grow their business, we have a lot more planned. For example, last year, we started the $100K Small Business App Showdown, a contest that enables the small business and accountant ecosystem to choose the top apps of the year and provides substantial opportunities for the finalists and winner to get in front of our community at QuickBooks Connect. But don’t take our word for it: hear for yourself how App Showdown helped last year’s winner!

Again, we look forward to sharing more news with you on this front.

On a personal note, I want to share how excited I am to be back at Intuit leading the Developer Group and the platform team. In the first couple of weeks back, I was lucky enough to join over 120 developers at the #SmallBizHack event in the heart of London and was blown away with the creativity and energy of the developer community in the UK market–check out this highlight video.

As you can see, we had a lot of fun!

Although a lot has changed in the four years I’ve been away, there’s a lot that is the same: for example, we have a highly talented team of people at Intuit who are PASSIONATE about developers and their success…and we have a thriving developer ecosystem solving important problems for our small business customers. And, of course, we have plenty of opportunities in front of us to improve our platform end-to-end.

What’s different? Not only the growth of the QuickBooks Online customer base and the number of 3rd party apps, but also the quality of the apps and integrations has progressed significantly. Two other notable differences are:

  • The growth we are making on the global side of the QuickBooks Online business.
  • The number of apps we have serving those local market needs.

I look forward to sharing more details of our roadmap and more stories of our joint success as we make our Developer Group vision become real: To be the global, trusted platform of choice for all developers serving small businesses and accountants.
